Preparing for a Home Inspection

Home inspectors are discouraged from moving personal items which may be restricting access to areas  requiring inspecting. This may result in an incomplete inspection, call backs, extra costs for the buyer, or even a discouraged buyer being "turned off" believing the seller is trying to hide defects

It is in everyone's best interests to provide easy access to the following areas:

  • Attic access door
  • Crawlspace access door and the removal of stored items
  • Water meter and main water feed and drain
  • Furnace and surrounding area
  • Hot water heater and the surrounding area
  • Exterior condensing unit and area
  • Main electrical panel (please provide at least 1 meter of space for our safety)
  • Electrical sub-panels

Please remove:

  • Decorative items from windows and doors (sun catchers, plants etc.)
  • Storage, furniture, etc. from interior foundation walls especially at corners
  • Storage from the garage

Please remember to:

  • Take pets to a friend or relatives.  This is for the safety of all concerned including your pets.
  • Turn off all computers and any sensitive electrical equipment.
  • Do not leave valuables (jewelry, money, etc.) in plain site

After the inspection we do our best to leave your home as we found it. However, sometimes electrical appliances may have to be temporarily unplugged. Please check clocks, alarm clocks and any digital Items. Also please ensure that thermostats are set to your desired settings.

Thank You
